Shortly after a railroad station was built in 1888, Inglewood was the first settlement to be carved out of the 25,000-acre Cantilena Ranch. On May 21, 1888, 300 residents opened the first day of school. Only 33 children were enrolled into this school. In 1908, Inglewood was incorporated as a city but was only put on the map in 1920 due to a major earthquake. Inglewood became the fastest growing city between the years of 1920 to 1925.
